Excessive water for cat
Q: My 13 year old female indoor cat is suddenly consuming huge quantities of water! needless to say the litter box is always drenched (a good sign?) and she is under some extra stress right now with a dog visiting us for a few days....do i need to be worried?
A: I would bring cat to vet for blood work to rule out thyroid, kidney and diabetes issues
Frequent dribbling
Q: My dog has a problem when she sits or lays for a period of time. she urinates well when she needs to. however she will leave a small puddle when she gets up from a sitting or laying position. she is aware of the problem, she frequently licks herself when she feels the dribbling.she is approximately 11 years. she was a puond puppy, no real way to fix her age. she has been fixed.
A: There is a remedy called homeopet leaks no more that may be of benefit in this situation.

My westie chews her legs
Q: My 2 year old westie started to chew her back legs. the vet said it was the food she was on. she was on the wellness diet, chicken. the vet put her on ivd diet, duck and potatoes. she's still licking and chewing her legs. what can it be? i know westie like to lick, but her back legs are hairless. she is crate trained. she sleeps in the crate and does the most chewing at night. i'm starting to think it's a habit. she was a rescue dog, so i don't know her history. should i give her something for her skin? please help! thank you
A: Sounds like she has inhalent allergies to molds, grasses, housedust, pollen, etc which is very common in this breed. you could try oral anthistamines to start like benadryl at dose of 1/2 to 1 mg per pound twice daily in addition to supplementing with fatty acid supplement like brite coat es from 1800petmeds or flax seed oil at dose of 1 tea per 20 pounds of body weight daily. if no help may need strongermeds or blood allergy testing to find out what allergic to. try wellness fish and potato diet which is much better quality than ivd diet

Running away
Q: We have property & when we go to the property he tends to run off chasing other wild animals. what can we get to keep him within our 5 acre area. what can we do without leashing him all of the time. we like him to have freedom but not to run off. any suggestions?
A: Have you considered constructing a dog run area that is fenced off?
Hair loss
Q: I have a 2 yr old shihtzu who looses patches of hair in warm months and the vet gives him a steroid shot for this about once a month.i do not like the idea of him getting these shots but it seems to help temporaly.he is on the advantage flea protection and goes to the groomer regular.there are no open places on his skin and it mostly falls out from his chest area.any solutions??
A: I hate these long acting steroid shots as they do in my opinion lead to long term health problems when used chronically. if your dog needs cortisone safest route is low dose oral therapy which can usually be tapered to every other day to every third day during allergy seasons. also could try antihistamines as well as fatty acids like derm caps from 1800petmeds. also new drug out called atopica which is alternative to cortisone
