Dog shakes ears repeatedlyQ: Our 80lb+ lab has runny eyes and sneezes often. the biggest problem is she shakes her ears -doesn't really scratch them much but they definately bother her. attitude is typical lab..always smiling and ready to play. i'll try benedryl 1mg 2 or 3 tpd like other answers offer, but what about those ears? does it help that too? A: If ear issue has underyling allergic component then benadryl can help in some cases. a 75 pound lab would get roughly 50 mg benadryl twice daily. but should really have ears examined with otoscope by vet to make sure no infections which are often secondary to underyling allergies.
Rash around eye of dogQ: My minipin has suddenly developed a gray sort of circular rash around one eye. can this be an allergy? what do you think it could be, and what can i do for it. thank you for reply A: Answered this previously. likely allergy or secondary infection but needs vet visit to make sure not skin parasite
PreventionQ: Do all dogs need it? how do i begin treatment A: Your journey would include a trip to your veterinarian for a test to see if your dog(s) are heartworm negative. if so, ask for a prescription so we can fill and ship the product to your house.
PreventativeQ: I have a maltese that wighs 7 pounds and i am looking for an oral pill that i can give once a month instead of applying the topical treatment once a month. this would be so much simpler than trying to apply liquid to my dogs skin. he is only 1 year and 4 months old and loves the outdoors. he is in great health and has had all his shots and been nuetered. thanks for any assistance. A: You can use program tablets once a month for the control of fleas. program does not protect against ticks.
Shop for: tick
Wounds on earQ: My dog has open sores on his ears from scratching, i'm cleaning it with salt & water and using cortizone is this ok? A: You might be better off cleaning the wound with mild soap and water. i would not use cortisone products on an open wound because it may prevent healing. you may want to use a product such as nolvasan as a skin and wound cleaner.
Perscriptions for fleasQ: I have 3 dogs and two cats. this year the fleas are more numerous on my pets. i tried dips, powders and collars. is there any perscriptions that i can get to get rid of the fleas? A: The over the counter flea products such as advantage, frontline or program are very effective. however, when there is a flea infestation, you need to treat the pets, the house and the outsidfe environment as well. sentinel and revolution are two prescription heartworm preventatives that are also used to protect against fleas.

Seizure?Q: My year old bichon frise will run around like crazy for no appraent reason. she'll run in a circle then bounce on me, sometimes nipping me. it appears she is playing but, at the same time, she doesn't seem to see me or know where she is. i have only had her 2.5 months and this has happened probably 3 or 4 times. is she having a seizure. or is she just letting off energy? i haven't pin-pointed anything that could cause this behavior. what should i do? thank you for your time. A: Could be some sort of seizure or possibly just severe behavioral issue, hyperactivity, etc. take to vet for exam and evaluation to sort out
