Our dog and accidents in houseQ: I wrote to you about 1 week ago about our dog. he is 6 years old and has off an on done messes on the living room rug. i thought that it was a manipultive jesture on the dogs part for he does not like it when we leave him to go to work or school. he does not do it all the time but, usually after we are home for vacations or summer time when he is with us more and then we go back to the routine that he is alone for 6 hours or so. we left for a weekend and my oldest son was home for the most part and and when he came in to feed him in the am after being gone for 6 hours in the night time theirss was a big mess on the rug. so, i thought i would change his food and then that would help his digestive system, ( we got him lamb and rice iam's) now he won't eat. so i've mixed the old chicken and cornmeal etc. with the l&r. he still won't eat. i don't know what is up. any help is greatly appreciated. A: If dog not eating, needs vet visit and exam and workup to find why. too many possibilities here that can cause loss of appetite
Frequent dribblingQ: My dog has a problem when she sits or lays for a period of time. she urinates well when she needs to. however she will leave a small puddle when she gets up from a sitting or laying position. she is aware of the problem, she frequently licks herself when she feels the dribbling.she is approximately 11 years. she was a puond puppy, no real way to fix her age. she has been fixed. Sick 4 pound dogQ: I have a dog that is 4 pounds we went to the vet because he started throwing up and did so 7 times they ran 2 test gave him fluids and metronidazoleand sent us home an arm and a leg later they dont know whats wroung with him and he is still throwing up i am making him drink 3cc an hour of pedilite what else can we do or what A: Should have x ray to rule out obstruction. take him back to vet. if x ray already done and no obstructions can try a liquid dose of cimitidine(generic tagamet) at 10 mg twice to three times daily. if continues have bloodwork and stool recheck as well
Treatment of allegiesQ: My recent rescue dog has severe allergies, we of course are buying food without soy, wheat or corn in it. he is on benadryl 75 mgs. 3 x a day. he weights 70 pounds. but i have noticed loose bowels. is there anything else besides i am doing advantage, cephelexin 500 mg. per the vet his hot spots are better. how long do i keep this up.? he almost has stopped chewing his body completely! i am also using quadriderm nf creme on his many sores. help A: Diarrhea could be from antibiotic. i would purchase probiotic from health food store to help wtih healthy intestinal bacteria as well as prozyme from 1800petmeds. i also use slippery elm from health food store in acute diarrhea cases. finish prescriptions as directed by your vet. if recurs, i would consider allergy testing or different low allergy diet

Do puppies naturally develop wormsQ: Our dog gave birth to 9 puppies 5 weeks ago. all all very healthy and we will begin their vaccinations this weekend. i was told that all puppies develop worms. is this true? if so, is there a wormer that i should administer to them now to prevent infestation? A: I would use wormer known as nemex from 1800petmeds and give two doses 3 weeks apart. then start on monthly heartworm interceptor to prevent future infestations. i would wait on vaccines until 8 weeks old. then get one further booster at 12 weeks of age, before getting rabies which should be separated from others to lessen short and long term side effects.
