Frequent dribbling
Q: My dog has a problem when she sits or lays for a period of time. she urinates well when she needs to. however she will leave a small puddle when she gets up from a sitting or laying position. she is aware of the problem, she frequently licks herself when she feels the dribbling.she is approximately 11 years. she was a puond puppy, no real way to fix her age. she has been fixed.
A: There is a remedy called homeopet leaks no more that may be of benefit in this situation.

Multiple cats
Q: I would like to know if since i have three cats, if i use frontline flea drops on the back of their necks and they lick eachother, is this toxic? i have had a problem with fleas for a few weeks and have used powder, carpet powder and spray, but nothing is working. these cats do not go outside, however, we have two dogs that have brought the fleas into our home. we have treated the dogs with frontline, but i am leary of using it on the cats. any suggestions?
A: Applying the frontline between their shoulder blades and controlling them during the rapid drying process should prevent any problems. i use it on my three cats and have yet to notice any untoward reaction.

Cushings disease/shaking
Q: My vet just told us that our eight year chow could have a form of cushings disease. she was tested for everything, xrays, blood, etc and she has tremors, not all the time, usually in the mornings. we thought she was just cold as we had her shaved. the doc. told us she needed to lose weight. he did a test on friday and now he says she has a form of cushings and that the medicine will be $17.00 dollars a day. first of all, we can't afford that and secondly how serious is this for my dog. can she die from this disease? what is the cause? it just started about 2 weeks ago. thanks for your information.
A: First i would make sure your dog truly has cushings disease which is an overactive adrenal gland. many times under stress or because of other stress induced disorders, dogs can have false positive test results for this disease. i always like to combine blood tests with ultrasound of adrenal glands looking at their size in making diagnosis as well. most dogs with cushings have big increased thirst/urination and /or appetite as well as sometimes pot bellied appearance. if your dog has none of these i would question diagnosis. if truly cushings then should have treatment due to secondary infections, hypertension and diabetes which can occur if untreated

Prevention
Q: Do all dogs need it? how do i begin treatment
A: Your journey would include a trip to your veterinarian for a test to see if your dog(s) are heartworm negative. if so, ask for a prescription so we can fill and ship the product to your house.

Stomach aches
Q: I think my 2 year old dog may have an allergy to her food (natural choice for skin and coat). i have had her on this food over a year for her skin allergies. now however, she seems to get a stomach ache about once or twice a week. she will wake me up in the middle of the night crying and when i take her out, she will just eat grass. i can also hear her tummy making all kinds of noises....eventually she will end up with diarrhea. i have since placed her on a rice and plain yogurt diet with a dietary supplement. she has not had any problems since except that her stool is very runny (no stomach aches or grass eating). is there any food that i might be able to feed her? i don't know what else to do. thank you.
A: She she should really have vet visit for full gi workup as she might have intestinal condition that needs chronic meds. you can try low allergy diet like california natural lamb and rice diet by natura as well as wellness fish and potato diet. also consider pepcid ac for vomiting at dose of 1/2 mg per pound once to twice daily and try slippery elm from health food store for diarrhea in meantime

Mom ate baby
Q: My little pomerian had 10 puppies, 3 days later she killed one and ate him...why is that??? all dogs do that?? i am very sad with her...whats the reason behind that...why didnt she eat the rest...shall i seperate them?? thx
A: Perhaps the one was a sickly one or not going to survive. occasionally this occurs and as long as she is taking good care of others and they are nursing, etc i would not worry

Running away
Q: We have property & when we go to the property he tends to run off chasing other wild animals. what can we get to keep him within our 5 acre area. what can we do without leashing him all of the time. we like him to have freedom but not to run off. any suggestions?
A: Have you considered constructing a dog run area that is fenced off?

Rash around eye of dog
Q: My minipin has suddenly developed a gray sort of circular rash around one eye. can this be an allergy? what do you think it could be, and what can i do for it. thank you for reply
A: Answered this previously. likely allergy or secondary infection but needs vet visit to make sure not skin parasite
